Font Metadata Analyzer
Read every metadata field stored inside a font file — name table, OS/2 table, head table, hhea, and post. Verify licensing, family name, version, weight class, x-height, and more from a single upload.
What the Font Metadata Analyzer reports
The tool parses five font tables and returns everything readable:
- name table — fontFamily, fontSubfamily, fullName, postScriptName, version, designer, manufacturer, license, copyright, trademark
- OS/2 table — usWeightClass, usWidthClass, sxHeight, sCapHeight, fsType, and embedding permissions
- head table — unitsPerEm, bounding box, fontRevision
- hhea table — ascender, descender, lineGap
- post table — italicAngle, underlinePosition, underlineThickness
Frequently asked questions
What is font metadata used for?
License verification, CSS integration, version auditing, and confirming that a font is authentic. Designers and developers rely on metadata to know exactly what font they are working with.
What does fsType mean?
fsType is the OS/2 embedding permission field. Value 0 means installable embedding, 2 means restricted license, 4 means preview and print only, 8 means editable embedding. It constrains how the font may be embedded in documents.
Why is x-height important?
x-height affects legibility at small sizes. Larger x-height generally means better readability but less line-height contrast.
