Font License Metadata Viewer

Read the license string, license URL, copyright, and fsType embedding permissions embedded inside a font file. Verify commercial-use rights before you deploy a font in production.

Read this first: The embedded license string is a reference. The actual legal license comes from the font's EULA or open-source license document, not from a metadata field. Use this tool to identify the license type, then read the full license file before commercial use.

Frequently asked questions

Is the embedded license a complete license?

No. It is a short string stored in the name table, usually naming the license type (SIL OFL, Apache 2.0, commercial, etc.). The actual legal terms are in the license document that ships with the font.

Can I use a font commercially with fsType 0?

fsType 0 means the font allows installable embedding. This is about embedding permissions, not commercial-use rights. You still need to check the license document for commercial-use terms.

What is the safest license for web fonts?

SIL Open Font License (OFL) 1.1 is the most common open-source web font license. It allows commercial use, modification, and web embedding. Apache 2.0 is similar. Always read the full license text.
